Greg Docherty insists that Hull City will maintain their level-headed, game-by-game approach as they prepare for another big weekend of action.
The Tigers are currently top of the Sky Bet League One table and face Fleetwood Town at the KCOM Stadium on Saturday, and while some on the outside might be looking at results elsewhere in the race for promotion Docherty says that certainly won’t be the case inside the dressing room.
“We didn’t know any of last weekend’s results until well after our game was finished,” said Docherty.
“If you start looking at other games and the table, you can get ahead of yourselves and your performances can start to dip. I know it sounds so cliché to say, but you can only control what you can control and it’s about staying calm.
“The gaffer reiterates that every day and we go and do what we can do to get our own business done. If we carry on with that, hopefully it will take us to where we want to go.”
Grant McCann’s side have just five games left as the race for promotion continues, and Docherty says it will be a bit like a mini-season in itself.
“We have five games left, so that shows that there is still a lot of football to play,” added the Scottish midfielder.
“It’s almost like a mini-season in itself and it’s just a case of turning up on a matchday and doing our jobs. The aim will always be to take three points.
“We just have to try and control what we can control and not look at the table. That’s the way we’re all looking at it and we’ve got another really tough game on Saturday against Fleetwood.”
