Hare on U18s Barnsley Draw

4 April 2021

Hull City U18s Assistant Manager Matt Hare was pleased with his side’s character as the Tigers secured a 1-1 draw against Barnsley.

Josh Hinds’ equaliser earned the Tigers a point at the Oakwell Training Ground, cancelling out Angus Chapman’s opener for the hosts.

On the Draw…

“We said to the boys before the game that Barnsley are a hardworking team and they’re not going to give us anything easy and the boys were prepared for the battle. I think we could have scored a few goals in the opening 20 minutes as we had a lot of good chances to maybe get a few goals in front.

“However, we went 1-0 down and the boys responded well by scoring immediately. They showed that character to stay in the game and the boys won their individual battles so we were pleased with the response to going 1-0 down. All in all, we’re quite happy with the point.”

James Carr U18 Start…

“We thought James was excellent. He came in at right-back and took a really big tackle early on and responded to it well by making tackles of his own. He was also brave to get on the ball and we couldn’t have asked for more from James as we thought he was excellent.”

Charlton Athletic Preview…

“We’re back at home next week after five successive away games. We’re playing Charlton Athletic and they’re doing really well in the Southern League. They’re a very good Academy that produce a lot of players for their first-team, so it’s going to be nothing, but a really tough afternoon for us.”
