Hull City U18s 2-2 Swansea City U18s: Match Report

27 April 2021

Hull City U18s came from two goals down to secure a point in the Professional Development League with a 2-2 draw against Swansea City U18s. Goals from Billy Leach and Glen Sani cancelled out Iwan Morgan’s brace, with Swansea being reduced to ten men late on in the Tigers’ last home fixture of the 2020/21 season.

John Anderson and Matt Hare made five changes to the starting XI that defeated QPR 2-1 last time out. Under-23s regular David Robson featured as an overage player in between the sticks, while Henry Curtis, Harry Lovick, Leach and Jack Brown all started respectively.

The first half was one of few chances as Lovick saw his effort cleared away by the Swansea defence, before the midfielder saw a second attempt deflect wide off full-back Panashe Makokowe.

At the other end, Ben Lloyd hit the crossbar with a thunderous effort, before the visitors took the lead just before half-time. Morgan finished a well-worked corner routine by heading in from close range as the Tigers trailed at the break.

Swansea doubled their lead three minutes into the start of the second half as Morgan converted Cameron Congreve’s free-kick with a volleyed finish. The Tigers tried to respond through Jevon Mills, as the defender met Oliver Green’s corner delivery, but his powerful header was well saved by Alex Rutter.

In the other goal, Robson saved well to deny Joel Cotteral at his near post while Rutter parried Green’s free-kick attempt.

The Tigers started their comeback in the 78th minute as Leach’s cross hit the inside of the post before finding the back of the net. The winger almost turned provider two minutes later as his low cross was just missed by an outstretched Sani in the six-yard area.

However, the pair linked up to score the equaliser with a minute of normal time left to play. After a great run and pass by Green found Leach, the winger in turn fired a low cross-shot across goal, which was converted by Sani at the back post.

Swansea finished the game with ten men after an off-the-ball incident occurred on the left-wing, with Makokowe being shown a straight red card by the referee.
