No Change In Our Approach - McCann

22 April 2021

Grant McCann says his players will maintain a calm, confident and focused approach to Saturday’s away game against Lincoln City.

The Tigers head to Sincil Bank knowing a win would guarantee promotion back to the Sky Bet Championship, but McCann insists all eyes will remain on the performance rather than the prize.

“We feel calm and confident and we approach each game as it comes,” said McCann.

“There’s a real focus and the boys were ready to prepare for Lincoln as soon as the Sunderland game finished. We’ve got three games left and we’ll focus on each one as it comes. The next one is Lincoln and we know that if we win we will be promoted.

“I’ve been really pleased with the way the players have remained grounded throughout the whole season, even when we’ve lost games. They’ve stayed focused on the job that needs doing but we’re not there yet and we’ll give everything that we have for Hull City and for the fans to get us to where we want to get to.

“We’ll just go there to try and win the game. We’ll be calm and focused. Lincoln have had a bit of a resurgence since coming back off a two-week break and have got some of their injured players back. They seem to have got a bit of form going at the right time and they’ve been up and around the top two or three for most of the season. They’re a good team that pose a real danger and have real threats so we’ll have to be good again.

“We’ll go there and focus on our own performance because if we can get that right, then nine times out of ten we feel as though we can get the result.”

McCann’s squad will be close to full strength for the trip to Lincolnshire, with midfielder George Honeyman returning from a knock against Sunderland on Tuesday night and defender Reece Burke featuring on the bench. With Richie Smallwood also recently coming back from injury, the Tigers’ Head Coach says the group is in a good place.

“Everyone is fine,” continued McCann.

“We had to look after George a little bit with the knock that he picked up last week and we didn’t want to play him past a point that would rule him out for the weekend, but I think he’s good.

“It’s pleasing to be getting people back. Richie Smallwood is coming back and upping his minutes a little bit, and his calmness and control will be huge for us for the rest of the season. It was nice to have Reece Burke back available as well on Tuesday night.”
