Second-year scholar Josh Ward felt the whole team gained valuable experience from the 3-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday U23s.
An own goal and goals from Andre Green and Elias Kachunga condemned a young Hull City U23s to defeat in the Professional Development League.
“It was great to have that battle against experienced players,” said the defender.
“As a young player, you want to be playing against those experienced players at every opportunity, because it tests your own personal ability both on and off the ball. It was a different test for us all and I think it’s a learning curve we can all take and learn from and progress forward.
“We did well considering the age gap of our squad compared to Sheffield Wednesday’s, especially when you see that they had a lot of senior players in there who have made Premier League and Championship appearances; they had a whole range of top quality players.
“We competed quite well and defended well throughout the game. However, we did give the ball away cheaply too many times and we just couldn’t really get a hold of it for long enough over large periods.
“Overall, it was good for the whole squad to get some vital minutes and we’ve now got the last couple of games of the season to go and hopefully we can finish strongly with some good results.”
