Harvey Cartwright has admitted the better team won after the Under-23’s suffered a 3-0 defeat away at Birmingham City.
An own goal and strikes from Kane Thompson-Sommers and Adan George condemned the Tigers to defeat at the Trillion Trophy Training Centre.
“We just got beat by the better side,” said Cartwright.
“We pressed well and I thought we were the better team in the opening minutes, but when that first goal went in it definitely killed the mood and our atmosphere of what we had in the game and we just couldn’t get back the grip of the game which was the most annoying thing.
“Defensively we did okay, but when we won the ball back, we’d give it away too easily and too quickly which was frustrating, but at the end of the day, they were a very good Birmingham side.
“It was a tough game, but we now go into our next game against Barnsley with confidence, because we’ll learn from this defeat and if we battle well and play well, then I’m sure we can get a result against a good Barnsley side.”
