Hare on U18’s Barnsley Draw

8 February 2021

Hull City U18’s Assistant Manager Matt Hare said it was a tough battle for his team as the Tigers earned a point against high-flying Barnsley.

Ben Hall’s second-half strike cancelled out Will Jarvis’ opener as the Tigers secured their first point in 2021 in the U18 Professional Development League.

On the Draw…

“I thought it was a battle from the first whistle to the last whistle and I thought both teams responded to that battle really well. No one had it easy and we knew it wasn’t going to be an easy game. We definitely wouldn’t make it easy for Barnsley and you can see why as they’re currently second in the league. They’re a good footballing team, but we knew we could hurt them on the counter attack, which we went and did and we were very resilient in our defending.

“It definitely was a hard-fought point. I think whenever you play Barnsley, they make you work hard for any points against them, so we knew it was never going to be easy. We’re glad with the lads that when we had to take some early pressure in the game, they responded really well and stuck to the game plan by hitting them on the counter and we got ourselves into the lead and then even when we conceded, we didn’t buckle and we still pushed to try and get the winner.”

Glen Sani U18 Debut…

“I’m really pleased for Glen. He’s had a good season with the Under-16’s and he’s been performing really well for them. He was on the bench last week against Birmingham City and we wanted to get him on last week, but due to other tactical decisions we couldn’t get him on, but he managed to get on this week and I thought he made a good impact so I was pleased for Glen.”

Nottingham Forest Preview…

“We’ve played Forest once already this season and I thought they was a really, really good team. They find themselves at the wrong end of the table this season, but we definitely can’t take the table for granted as they are a good team. They have good movement, they work hard and again we’ve just got to be prepared for that and also utilise our strengths against them.”
