Goalkeeper George Long and forward Josh Magennis surprised Tigers Team Mates participants on their weekly online quiz call last week.
Hosted by Tigers Trust, the first-team duo went head-to-head with the participants in answering Hull City-themed questions, with the Tigers Team Mates running out winners.
The group then discussed their experiences in lockdown over the last year and how the Coronavirus pandemic has affected football and the wider community.
Magennis spoke about the impact on players’ routines and the individual training plans they have been given, as well as how the team have stayed connected and contacted each other for support.
The Northern Ireland international also shared his first-hand experience of contracting Covid-19 in December and how ill and worried he felt, and his relief now he is back to full fitness.
Long then thanked Tigers Team Mate member Paul Bryan for his efforts during the pandemic in making over 200 phone calls a month to senior fans at risk of isolation and loneliness. His efforts have been recognised with a letter of commendation from the Lord Lieutenant on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen.
The group thoroughly enjoyed meeting both players virtually, with Walking Footballer David Jackson commenting: “It was a very pleasant way to spend 40 minutes in the company of Josh and George along with everyone else. My thanks are also extended to Josh and George for sharing with us their experiences over the last few months.”
Today is Time to Talk Day, an annual event where people are encouraged to talk about mental health. During this difficult year, many individuals have experienced loneliness while shielding or battling with their mental health as a consequence of lockdowns. Now, more than ever, it is important to talk and connect with others, even by virtual means.
