McCann: ‘We Were Lacklustre’

24 February 2021

Grant McCann bemoaned a lacklustre performance after Hull City were beaten 1-0 at home by Ipswich Town.

James Norwood’s 15th-minute goal settled a game of few chances, with Keane Lewis-Potter spurning the Tigers’ best opportunity when he side-footed wide.

“I thought performance-wise, we were poor,” McCann admitted.

“We didn’t get going. We were lacklustre. We didn’t move the ball as quick as we’d like.

“We’ve been done off a soft goal, a disappointing goal for us – one long ball between centre-back and full-back and we’ve been caught napping a little bit.

“Saying all that, we still had the best two chances of the game, both fell to young Keane. Usually, he’d pass them in the corner. He missed the target but at least he’s getting the chances.

“It’s a different story if that chance from Keane goes in. We get it back in the first half to 1-1, it doesn’t.

“Second half, we kept going. They didn’t cause us too many problems defensively in the second half.

“It’s the third time it’s happened to us where we’ve lost 1-0 at home.

“It’s very, very important for us to get that first goal and it hasn’t happened enough for us at home.

“It’s a frustrating night for us after a very good 90 minutes at Wigan and a good 45 minutes at Doncaster. We were a bit lacklustre.”
