Brandon Fleming praised his Hull City teammates following Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Charlton Athletic.
The 21 year-old defender slotted into a youthful-looking defence to face the Addicks, but produced an impressive display at left-back as the Tigers recorded three points and a clean sheet in their first outing of 2021.
“We were back in on Thursday and we did a bit of shape work, so I had an inkling then that I might be starting,” said Fleming. “The gaffer named the team on Friday, so that’s when I knew for definite.”
“As a defender, first and foremost you want clean sheets and thankfully we did that. With the attacking players that we’ve got, if the defence can keep a clean sheet, we’ve got a really good chance of winning games as we’ve seen already this season. There aren’t too many games where we haven’t scored, so credit goes to the full team really.”
“We started the game well and got into the game. We knew what was coming from Charlton but I felt that we were comfortable in the game. We defended their set-pieces well and made it difficult for them to break us down. Even without their red card, I felt that we would have gone on to score a second and see the game out. It was a really good performance from us.”
“Every game is massive, so it was a massive three points and against a promotion rival. It puts us back into the automatic promotion places.”
