Alfie Jones was quick to praise the fight and character of the Tigers’ squad following Tuesday night’s fantastic fightback against Fleetwood Town in the Papa John’s Trophy.
Jones played the full 90 minutes as Hull City came from 2-0 down to win 3-2 courtesy of a last minute Lewie Coyle thunderbolt, and the midfielder was full of praise for the resilience and determination shown from the team to respond in the second half.
“It was an unbelievable comeback,” said Jones. “There’s no better feeling than a last minute winner and that’s typical cup football really. We were frustrated with the first half, so to finish the second half in the way that we did is testament to the group and the character in that dressing room.
“It’s an unbelievable strike from Lewie. Watching that shot go into the top corner was such a relief and just an amazing moment really.
“We’ve had some good results so far this season and like we showed the other night against Fleetwood, the character in our dressing room is very good.
“I’ve settled in well and I’m enjoying my time here. The goal from the start has always been to gain promotion back to the Championship and we’ve definitely got the dressing room and facilities to do that so we just need to stay focused and take each game as it comes and get the results in to work our way up the table.”
