Hull City U18 Thomas Macauley has admitted the defeat against Birmingham City was tough on the team.
Kieran Wakefield’s brace condemned the Tigers to defeat in their first game of 2021 in the U18 Professional Development League.
“It was disappointing for the boys, especially with it being the first game of the year,” said Macauley.
“We played alright in places, but I think we just didn’t have any end product and it was frustrating, especially as I wouldn’t say we were on the back foot a lot, but they did have more chances than us and they finished them as Birmingham were clinical.
“It’s just one of those games where we need to go away, improve and apply our focus onto next week and we’ll aim to train well during the week and go again looking forward to the game against Barnsley.”
The goalkeeper was one of seven first-year scholars named in the match day squad and despite the defeat, he was happy to gain vital minutes as he looks towards the rest of the season.
“It was great to see so many first-years and some Under-16's featuring in the team,” added Macauley.
“I’m delighted to have played a full ninety as every minute I play this season is great, especially as a first-year, so getting this game time now is good for my development and I’m currently enjoying it.”
