Anderson on U18’s Nottingham Forest Defeat

11 March 2021

John Anderson admitted his side should have got something out of the game after their second-half performance against Nottingham Forest Under-18’s.

Despite Harvey Carew scoring in stoppage time, first-half goals from Alexandros Sarantis and Ben Hammond condemned the Tigers to defeat at the Nigel Doughty Academy.

On The Defeat…

“I’m disappointed in the end, because second half the lads put a lot into it and we scored in the last minute and maybe, if there was another four or five minutes on the clock, have gone on and got an equaliser. We did start the game poorly though and conceded two in the first ten minutes which is always going to be an uphill task after that. We just felt that in the first half, we didn’t really compete enough or never got tight enough to them and we let them play too much and when you let good players play, they’ll play and Forest throughly deserved their lead at half-time.

“We said to the lads at half-time to be a little bit more aggressive, especially in the middle of the park and in the second half we came out and they did that. They competed better, got on the ball more and we played forward a bit more and we were the better team. We just lacked that clinical edge in the final third and the goal came a little bit too late for us.”

Jake Brown Debut…

“I thought Jake had done great and he applied himself well when he came on. He’s an Under-16 and we put him on for the last fifteen minutes just to give him a feel of Under-18’s football and it’s never easy for a substitute coming onto a game when it’s at a fast pace, but I thought he handled himself really well.”

Crewe Preview…

“Crewe always play some really good football. We played them in the FA Youth Cup this year and we were lucky enough to beat them, but they gave us a heavy defeat at our place before Christmas and we always know that whenever you play them, theyre always a very good footballing side and we dont expect anything else, but a very tough game.”
