Hare on U18’s Crewe Alexandra Win

15 March 2021

Hull City Under-18 Assistant Manager Matt Hare praised his team’s character after a 4-3 victory against Crewe Alexandra.

The Tigers came from behind twice to secure all three points in the Professional Development League, courtesy of a goal from Louis Beckett and hat-trick from McCauley Snelgrove.

On the victory…

“We’re pleased with the performance. In the first half, when we went 1-0 behind, we showed character to stay in the game and deservedly got an equaliser just before half-time. At half-time we told the boys to believe in themselves a little bit more and believe in the press and they did that and the rewards were the goals we went and scored.

“The only disappointing thing from the game was conceding three, with two of them coming from set-pieces. We’d like to start games a little bit more on the front foot, but we’ve just got to work on our set-piece defending. That was the only negative that came away from this performance, but we’re obviously delighted with the three points.”

Character Shown…

“It was great today and that’s what we wanted from the boys. At times you’ve just got to show that character and even though they’ve been disappointed with a few results recently, the only thing that’s going to get you out of it is hard work and character. That’s what they showed with this performance by turning it around in the game today.”

Snelgrove Hat-Trick…

“‘Macca’ (McCauley Snelgrove) is always a threat when he’s in the final third. He can create goals, score goals, inside and outside of the box and he’s got a real variety to his game. We’re pleased with his individual efforts today, but what got McCauley’s goals and Louis’ (Beckett) was the hard work off the ball by the whole team.”
