Hull City U18’s suffered defeat in their latest Professional Development League fixture, losing 4-0 against Coventry City. A brace from Sam Pitts-Eckersall and goals from a trialist and George Burroughs condemned the Tigers to defeat at Bishop Burton College.
John Anderson and Matt Hare made three changes to the starting XI that defeated Sheffield United 6-5 last time out. Rio Dyer, Sam Deacon and Josh Hinds all came into the side for Josh Ward, Louis Beckett and Luke Rees respectively.
The Tigers had the first opportunity of the game as Hinds’ free-kick was pushed behind from Keelan Fallows. In the other goal, Harry Fisk produced a good save to deny Aaron Evans-Harriott, before Harry Lovick cleared away the rebound.
Coventry opened the scoring on the 23rd minute as good link up play between Hayden Purves and the Coventry trialist created space for Pitts-Eckersall to place a low shot into the bottom corner. The visitors then doubled their lead 12 minutes later as Burroughs volleyed in from close-range, after the Tigers failed to clear Purves’ corner.
Fisk produced a good stop at his near post to deny Pitts-Eckersall as the Tigers trailed at the half-time break.
In the second half, the Tigers thought they got one back through McCauley Snelgrove. The winger was part of a short free-kick routine as he curled his effort towards the far corner, but Fallows acrobatically denied him with a great save.
The Tigers kept pushing as they three chances in the matter of seconds, as a quick counter-attack initially saw both Hinds and Harvey Carew have shots cleared off the line by Burroughs, before a header by Will Jarvis was gathered by Fallows.
The visitors extended their lead with 20 minutes left to play as the Coventry trialist poked an effort past Fisk from a tight angle, before scoring a fourth deep in injury time as Pitts-Eckersall converted from close-range, after Fisk produced a string of great saves to deny John Alan McGrath.
