Hull City U23s suffered defeat in their latest Professional Development League fixture, losing 2-0 against Nottingham Forest U23s. A goal in each half from Julian Larsson and Fin Back condemned the Tigers to defeat at the LNER Community Stadium.
Richard Naylor and Andy Dawson made four changes to the starting XI that defeated Ipswich Town 4-1 last time out. Two unnamed trialists started for the Tigers, while there were welcome returns for Jake Leake, Louis Beckett and Will Jarvis.
It was a fairly even affair in the opening exchanges with the visitors having the first chances of the game as Ateef Konate saw his effort blocked by a Tigers trialist, before the winger had another attempt saved by David Robson moments later.
Matty Jacob then produced a good block from close range to deny Fin Back, before Baba Fernandes headed wide from the resulting corner. At the other end, James Berry’s curling effort was well saved by George Shelvey, before Nottingham Forest received a penalty in the 43rd minute.
After it was adjudged Keith Asare was fouled in the penalty area, Larsson stepped up and converted his spot-kick to give the visitors the lead at the half-time break.
In the second half, Robson produced two great saves to deny Konate, before Yassine En-Neyah hit the crossbar with his effort, after he connected with Alex Gibson-Hammond’s low delivery at the back post.
The Tigers pushed for an equaliser as Josh Hinds thought he’d won a penalty as he raced through on goal, but the referee decided that the challenge on him from Fernandes was fair, before Berry and Jarvis both fired chances off target.
Forest then secured the three points with a minute left of regular time, as Robson initially saved well to deny substitute Elliot Andrew one-on-one, before the rebound fell to Back who guided his looping header into the empty net.
