Grant McCann has dedicated his Sky Bet League One Manager of the Month award for April to his staff and players, saying it is a collective effort that has paid dividends.
It is McCann’s second monthly award of the season having previously claimed January’s prize but, like last time, he was quick to highlight the hard work of those around him after a successful few weeks in which the Tigers have won automatic promotion and the League One title.
“These awards aren’t won by me, they’re won by us,” said McCann.
“It has been a collective effort to get to where we’ve got to. We had a really good month in April but, consistently, over the 45 games we’ve played so far we’ve been the best team and that is why we are top of the league and have won promotion.
“We’re all just looking forward to the game at Charlton on Sunday now where we can go and play with some freedom and maybe a bit of swagger as we try to get another win.”
McCann did have words of praise for Josh Magennis, though, after the Northern Ireland international was named the Sky Bet League One Player of the Month for April after scoring six goals in as many appearances.
“Josh has been outstanding, he really has,” continued McCann.
“He’s been a breath of fresh air this season both on and off the pitch, guiding people in the right direction and putting an arm around their shoulder when needed as well as giving them a kick up the backside if needed. He’s done that all the way through and has real leadership characteristics. The goals he’s scored speak for themselves."
