Simpson is a former international assistant referee, who officiated in many Champions League matches and other international fixtures.
He opted for a career with the whistle after refereeing the 2012 National League Play-Off Final between York City and Luton Town, and was appointed to the EFL Referees List in 2012/13. In his five seasons on that list, Simpson has refereed almost 200 games.
It will be Simpson’s first Tigers’ fixture since he took charge of our 1-1 home draw with MK Dons in March 2016, with his only other match being the 3-0 victory over Middlesborough in November 2015.
Simpson has yet to oversee a first-team fixture this season, but officiated 40 games in 2016/17 – 29 of which were in the Championship – showing 166 yellow and six red cards.
He will be assisted by Shaun Hudson and Jonathan Hunt whilst Robert Jones is on duty with the numbers board.
