Report: Tigers Held By FC Nantes

25 July 2017
The Tigers were held to a 0-0 draw against Ligue 1 side FC Nantes at KCOM Craven Park.

Striker Abel Hernandez had Leonid Slutsky’s side’s best opportunity but was denied by Maxime Dupe. The French side had the better of the second period and Jules Iloki was unlucky to see his effort come crashing off the post.

Max Clark came into the centre of defence in place of the suspended skipper Michael Dawson, whilst Fraizer Campbell got his first appearance in a black and amber shirt since returning to the club in place of Markus Henriksen who missed out with a slight shoulder problem.

Najib Gandi had the first effort of the game but volleyed straight at Allan McGregor from the edge of the area.

The Tigers’ first opportunity was the result of excellent work rate from Campbell on the right and the forward squared the ball to his strike partner Abel Hernandez who had a shot blocked. Jarrod Bowen’s follow up effort was also repelled by the Nantes defence.

Sam Clucas, who captained the side on the night, tried his luck from long range after a miscued clearance from Nantes keeper Dupe but the midfielder couldn’t keep the ball down.

The best chance of the half fell to Uruguay international Hernandez but the striker couldn’t find the net when sent through on goal by Grosicki.

McGregor had to have his wits about him to deny Emiliano Sala’s header after 63 minutes and substitute James Weir then went into the book soon after for a poor looking challenge.

Nantes winger Jules Iloki then saw a shot fly wide of the post and another effort fly back off the post as the French side looked the sharper throughout the closing stages.

Defender Andrej Mazuch couldn’t make the most of his opportunity ten minutes from time when he cleared the crossbar from a Bowen corner as the game ended all square.

The Tigers will travel to Holland at the end of the week for the final game of their pre-season campaign against Dutch giants Ajax.
