John Anderson and Terry Boyle’s young side kick-off their 2017/18 season on home soil against the Bluebirds, with central midfielder Sheaf eager to back up the hard work done by the side during pre-season with three points from their opening game.
“All the hard work in pre-season has been done and we’re now ready for our first game of the season on Saturday,” said Sheaf.
“The boys have worked hard and we all feel ready for the season to start. We’re ready to go and determined to kick-off the campaign on a positive note by getting the right result against Cardiff.
“It’s going to be a tough game. Cardiff are a very good side and have always given us a real test whenever we’ve played them. I’m sure it will be a good game to watch and to be involved in and hopefully, we can come away with the right result.
“You go into every game wanting to win and we’ll be doing just that on Saturday. We’re confident we can do well.”
The two teams also met on the opening day of the previous campaign with the Tigers losing out in a seven-goal thriller that ended 4-3 – a result Sheaf is looking to avenge when the Welsh outfit make the trip to East Yorkshire.
“It was a tough game, which I think we deserved to get something from. In the end, it was quite a controversial game for a number of different reasons.
“I remember we were really disappointed at coming away with nothing to show for our efforts after the game, so it would nice to get a bit of revenge by taking the three points on Saturday.”
Following his return from injury, Sheaf’s pre-season campaign has seen him involved in training sessions and games with both the Tigers’ Under-18 and Under-23 teams – an experience the youngster feels he has benefitted from.
“It’s been really good,” he added. “I’ve been involved with both set-ups, and I enjoyed making the step up. It was good to get a taste of the next step that I’m aiming to make with regards to the Under-23s.
“But that’s not to say I haven’t enjoyed being with the Under-18s either. Training has been good as we’ve looked to get into a rhythm for the season and opening game, and we all can’t wait for the season to start.”
