The Tigers’ boss was encouraged by his side’s display in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Reading but accepted there remained plenty of scope for improvement.
And the Russian was quick to stress the importance of capitalising on home advantage with the Tigers’ next two games at the KCOM Stadium, as Birmingham make the trip to East Yorkshire after this evening’s clash with Preston.
“It’s a tough league and you must have the focus for 90 minutes,” he said.
“Each moment can completely change the match. It’s an interesting league but it’s really tough. Now we must show results, not only quality and balance. The result now is very important.
“There was better balance in the team at Reading and if we find a positive that was it. We didn’t have space between the lines and we had better chances but it was only almost. It was two points dropped, of course but we must look to respond in positive fashion.
“It’s back-to-back home games for us now – two very important games and a big opportunity to pick up some points.
“It is possible to win both games, but we know we must perform to the best our ability in order to make that happen.
“As I say, both are very important games, but at this moment we are only thinking about Preston.
“It will be very important to get a win. When you win it is easy to prepare for the next game, you can stay in a good mood. We can lead our lives more positively when we win.
“If we don’t have wins, we are thinking about the situation and not enjoying it. The mood in the camp is good and positive, but if we win our mood is even more positive and life is better.”
