The Tigers were beaten 3-1 by Aston Villa in their opening game of the campaign and face a Sheffield Wednesday side that also suffered defeat in their first fixture, but Adkins was quick to stress that spirit remains high in his camp.
“I’m looking forward to going to Hillsborough and we have a team full of spirit,” said Adkins.
“We’re organised and this is our next opportunity. We know that we have to win games of football and it’s about the processes that you have to go through to win them. Our processes are good but sometimes there is a fine margin between winning and losing games.
“We’re going to Sheffield Wednesday with a young, hungry, dynamic group of guys who are determined to do well. The team is the most important thing and they’re all working so hard for each other.
“It’s a small squad and the players all know that they’re going to be involved.
“We just have to focus on ourselves and what we want to do. If we work through our processes then we have an opportunity to go and win games of football. If there are mistakes they will be honest mistakes as we saw the other night when people are talking about David (Marshall) and Jordy (de Wijs).
“They didn’t mean to make the mistakes that they did, they were honest and they’re both working extremely hard all of the time. I think Jordy is going to be a top player for us.
“We had a one-on-one with them the day after the Villa game and it showed how much they care. They were disappointed but they both have my full backing. They will both start on Saturday.”
After seeing long periods of good play against Villa on Monday night, Adkins has also spoken of the importance of patience as his side gels together in the coming weeks.
“We’ve got a good culture here. The players work hard and they will improve,” continued Adkins.
“Like with everything, you need time. I think the supporters can see that we all want to do well for this football club and the players care about what they do. The result and the mistakes the other night hurt the players.
“This is a new team and if we can get that momentum or roll going, it can take us a long way. We’re going into this weekend looking for three points as we always do.”
