Substitution Limit Temporarily Increased

19 June 2020
In keeping with the Premier League and leagues which have restarted across Europe, teams in the Sky Bet Championship will be permitted to name nine substitutes and utilise up to five for the remaining fixtures in the 2019/20 season.

With teams worldwide being thrust back into action mid-season – at a critical time in the run-in – the temporary change in regulations are designed to protect player welfare.

So from Saturday’s home fixture against Charlton Athletic onwards, Grant McCann will be permitted to name 20 players on the teamsheet, and to use up to 15 of them during the course of the fixture.

To reduce disruption to the match, each team will have a maximum of three opportunities to make substitutions during the game. Substitutions may also be made at half time. If both teams make substitutions at the same time, this will count as one of the three opportunities for each team.
