Hull City

Vote For August’s SportPesa Player of the Month

02 September 2019
Voting is now open for the Hull City SportPesa Player of the Month award for August.

Jarrod Bowen, Jackson Irvine, Kevin Stewart and George Long are the four selected nominees for the award after a month which saw the Tigers accumulate five points from their opening six games of the 2019/20 Sky Bet Championship campaign.

Take a look at a summary of each nominee’s month below before casting your vote

Jarrod Bowen
After scoring 22 goals last season, the ‘Star Man’ has continued to shine in the opening month of 2019/20. Bowen has scored four goals in his seven appearances to-date – three of which have come in the Tigers’ league campaign. His impressive contribution on the pitch has seen him successfully complete 14 dribbles – the joint third-highest amount in the Championship behind only Fulham’s Ivan Cavaleiro (16) and Sheffield Wednesday’s Kadeem Harris (15).

Jackson Irvine
The ever-reliable Aussie has been his usual consistent self in the middle of the park in the opening month of the season, bringing energy and creativity to Grant McCann’s side. Irvine is averaging more passes per game (40.7) than any other player to feature regularly for the Tigers this season and has produced nine key passes (a pass/cross that is instrumental in creating a goal-scoring opportunity) for his team-mates. The 26-year-old also opened his account for the campaign with a superbly-taken header in the home win against Reading.

Kevin Stewart
The midfielder is a popular nominee for August’s prize after an impressive opening to the season on a personal level, which sees him second in the Championship for most interceptions (22) and tackles (25). In starting all six Championship games to date this season, Stewart has become an indispensable figure in Grant McCann’s side, with the Tigers’ Head Coach describing the 25-year-old as “the heartbeat of the team”.

George Long
While still eagerly awaiting his first clean sheet of the campaign, Long’s contribution between the posts cannot be ignored. The Sheffield-born custodian has made a league-high 22 saves in his six appearances – 18 (also a league-high) of which have been from shots inside the box – averaging 3.7 saves per game.
