Wilks Delighted To Net Late Winner Against Middlesbrough

03 July 2020
It was a night to remember for Mallik Wilks as he scored the winner for Hull City in second half stoppage time to beat Middlesbrough 2-1 at the KCOM Stadium – a result which saw the Tigers leapfrog Neil Warnock’s men in the table.

After joining the Club on a permanent basis from Barnsley earlier in the day, the 21-year-old marked the occasion with a vital goal in the battle at the bottom of the Championship.

Collecting Jordy de Wijs cushioned header inside the box, Wilks showed great composure to flick the ball past the onrushing Dejan Stojanovic and secure all three points for the Tigers.

“It was a massive goal in what was a massive game,” he said.

“As soon as the ball came across and Jordy headed it down, I just thought ‘I’m smashing this in’ – and thankfully I did!

“It was one of those games that was really scrappy. It had lots of nasty stuff. Both teams were fighting and giving everything for the win. We’re just delighted it was us that managed to come away with the points.

“It was disappointing to concede the early goal, but we didn’t let our heads drop. We showed great character to fight back and, in the end, I thought it was a well-deserved win.”
